White House Conference on Character Education - June, 1996

U.S. Department of Education "Improving America's Schools Second Annual Conference" - Washington, D.C. - Dec 1-3, 1995.

National Character Education Partnership Annual Forums - presentation in Feb.,1995 and 1/2 day pre-conference workshop in Feb.,1996. Sharon Banas accepted the invitation to attend planning sessions for the partnership before it became incorporated in February, 1993, making the Sweet Home District an original charter member.

National Character Education Conferences - July, 1999 and 1995 - St. Louis, Missouri.

Center for the 4th and 5th R's - Cortland University - summer institute to train teams from school districts and assist them in the development of plans for implementation - 1995, 1996, and 1998.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Annual Conferences - four-hour action labs in Chicago, 1994 and San Francisco, 1995.

American Association of School Administrators Annual Conference - New Orleans, 1991.

An "invitation-only" summit for 29 leaders in character education hosted by The Josephson School of Ethics of California. The participants drafted the resolution now referred to as "The Aspen Declaration." July, 1992 - Aspen, Colorado.

Association for Moral Education Conferences - 1992 in Toronto, Ontario and 1993 in Florida. Sweet Home also hosted eleven visitors from Scotland through the Association and supplied materials for a pre-conference workshop at the 1995 conference in New York City.

New York State School Boards Conventions - Niagara Falls - 1989, Buffalo - 1994, and Rochester - 1995.

New York State Education Department Conferences - Sharon has presented at all State conferences on this topic since 1990.

R.C.G. B.O.C.E.S. Professional Development Conference - Valatie, N.Y., 1992.

Madison-Oneida B.O.C.E.S. Workshops - August, 1995 and April, 1996.

Erie County School Boards Workshops - Dec., 1992 and Jan., 1990.

Georgia Humanities Council Teacher Academies - Atlanta, GA and Columbus, GA. June 26-27, 1997.

Georgia Humanities Council Conference in Atlanta, GA. - March 8, 1996 "Linking School and Community Through Character Education."

Sacramento, California - Oct. 27, 1997 - staff development for six school districts - elementary teachers and administrators. A return trip was made Nov. 14, 1998 to work with the middle schools in the same districts.

DeKalb County - Tucker, Georgia - staff development for elementary and middle school teachers, and a community forum - Jan 26-27, 1998. Another all-day staff development workshop (K-8) was conducted for teachers and guidance counselors - July 30, 1998.

Berry College - Rome, Georgia - as part of a summer institute an evening presentation was done for the community followed by a workshop for the participants the next day - June 25-26, 1998.
